Port and Logistics

UK’s Biggest Port Opportunities

The Port of Grimsby and Immingham is the UK’s largest port by tonnage. Benefiting from a prime deep-water location on the Humber Estuary, one of Europe’s busiest trade routes, it plays a central role in the commercial life of the UK and is poised to seize new opportunities that will shape our future.

The port is operated by Associated British Ports (ABP), the UK's largest and leading ports group. The port has seen major investments in recent years and now has docks and specialist terminals capable of handling large vessels up to 366 metres in length. Immingham has direct routes to Europe, North and South America, Africa, Australia, the Middle East and the Far East.

Short-Sea Shipping

Being just 200 miles from the global logistics hub of Rotterdam, many logistics operators use Immingham for ‘short-sea shipping’ solutions. This involves international shipments going into Rotterdam and then smaller vessels bringing in cargo the final leg of the journey into Immingham. This puts goods right into the heart of the UK, and reduces the need to use as much road transport from the south of the country. This type of shipping is not only more environmentally-friendly, but it is cost-effective too.

Just the place for just-in-time

The area is well suited to the ‘just-in-time’ culture of modern industry, by being able to provide high quality, well developed and easily accessible storage and distribution services. General quayside warehousing is available, together with a wide range of covered storage facilities. Extensive high-quality paved open-storage areas are available.

Skilled Workforce

The Ports and Logistics Centre of Vocational Excellence provides affordable, effective training for those involved in managing shipping or the transporting of goods via rail and road networks. This includes companies and their employees who are working in port operations; engineering services relating to vehicles and vessels and cold chain; storage, warehousing, distribution, freight management, and LGV driver training and development.

So, if you’re looking for the optimum location for:

  • national and international logistics
  • port-related developments
  • added-value manufacturing
  • warehousing and storage facilities

Grimsby and Immingham is the natural choice.
