Immingham bypass gets funding go ahead

THE long-awaited Immingham bypass has finally been given the go-ahead – becoming the third major development in North East Lincolnshire to be given the green light in just one day.

The £6.26 million bypass is one of 35 major transport schemes to be fast-tracked by the Government.

In his Autumn Statement to Parliament yesterday, Chancellor George Osborne also confirmed that Humber Bridge tolls will be cut by half for cars to £1.50 by April and that Port Of Grimsby has gained Enterprise Zone status.

The building of the bypass, as reported, links the A180 Stallingborough Interchange and the B1210. It will mean heavy goods vehicles will no longer have to travel through the middle of Immingham, an issue campaigners have highlighted for many years.

The plans for the road, which include a three-arm roundabout at the junction with the B1210, were unanimously passed by North East Lincolnshire Council's Planning Committee at Grimsby Town Hall in July.
